Elephant country deep in Corbett's buffer — remote, unspoilt and teeming with wildlife
Hathidagar Zone takes its name — literally meaning "elephant passage" — from the large elephant population that has long used this forest corridor as a seasonal movement route. Located in the northern buffer area of Jim Corbett National Park, Hathidagar is one of the more remote and less-visited zones, rewarding those who make the journey with an authentic and uncrowded jungle experience.
The zone's terrain features dense mixed and sal forest interspersed with seasonal streams and small forest clearings. These clearings serve as natural congregation points for wildlife, with elephant herds, deer and wild boar frequently seen grazing during morning safari hours. The forest is also prime tiger territory, and sightings have increased significantly as the zone has received greater protection.
For wildlife photographers and serious naturalists, Hathidagar offers something rare in Corbett: the feeling of being truly deep in the jungle, away from the main tourist circuits. The bird diversity here is exceptional, with several forest-interior species found in Hathidagar that are rarely encountered in zones closer to the park boundary.
Large herds are the signature sighting of Hathidagar — the zone's very name means "elephant passage."
Tigers move freely through this remote zone and sightings have increased with enhanced protection.
