Jim Corbett's most celebrated tiger territory — where the grasslands meet the sal forests
Named after the Bijrani rivulet that flows through its core, Bijrani Zone is widely regarded as Jim Corbett National Park's most rewarding jeep safari destination. Situated on the southern edge of Corbett, just a short drive from Ramnagar, the zone is entered through the historic Amdanda Gate — one of the park's most recognised entry points.
The landscape here is a dramatic blend of open grasslands (locally called chaurs) and dense sal forests. These open meadows create ideal conditions for tiger sightings, as the grasslands attract large herds of chital and sambar deer — and the tigers that follow them. Bijrani's chaurs are among the best-lit and most photogenic in all of Corbett.
Beyond the big cats, Bijrani is a biodiversity hotspot. With the Bijrani rivulet as a year-round water source, over 600 bird species have been recorded in this zone alone, making it a favourite among ornithologists and birdwatchers. Leopards, elephants, sloth bears, jackals and gharials round out an extraordinary cast of wildlife.

Bengal Tiger
Apex predator of Corbett. Bijrani is renowned for frequent tiger sightings near the open chaurs and forest edges — the most anticipated encounter of any safari.
Indian Leopard
Often spotted on rocky outcrops, in the dense sal forest edges and occasionally resting in trees, particularly during the golden hour at dawn and dusk.
Asian Elephant
Large herds frequently move through Bijrani's riverbanks and grassland corridors. Witnessing a herd crossing the chaur is a truly unforgettable experience.
Chital Deer
Thousands of spotted deer roam the meadows. Their alarm calls and behaviour are key indicators of predator presence, making them essential to watch closely.
Gharial & Mugger
Both gharial and mugger crocodiles are spotted along the Ramganga riverbed within the zone, often basking on sandy banks on sunny winter mornings.
600+ Bird Species
From the pied kingfisher to the crested serpent eagle, Bijrani is a birdwatcher's paradise. One of the richest avifaunal zones in all of Jim Corbett National Park.
Golden Grasslands
Bijrani's open chaurs are the zone's signature landscape. These sunlit grasslands attract enormous herds of deer, and tigers are frequently seen hunting or resting at the meadow edges — creating picture-perfect safari moments.
Dense Sal Forests
Ancient sal trees rise tall across Bijrani, providing ideal cover and habitat for tigers, leopards and sloth bears. Walking the forest trails on a jeep safari through these canopies is an experience that stays with you forever.
Bijrani Rivulet
The Bijrani rivulet is the lifeblood of this zone, flowing year-round and drawing diverse wildlife to its banks. Crocodiles bask on the sandy shores while kingfishers dart low over the water, creating a dynamic wildlife corridor.
